What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine is a clinically grounded, evidence-informed approach to healthcare that uses whole plants to support long-term health. Drawing on traditional herbal knowledge alongside modern clinical research, medical herbalists take a functional, whole-person approach, working safely alongside conventional medicine to address underlying drivers of illness as well as symptoms.

Treatment is individualised and may include tinctures, teas, capsules, or topical preparations. Safety and effectiveness are central to practice: prescriptions are informed by clinical evidence, carefully considered alongside existing medications, and referral to GPs or specialists is made whenever appropriate.

Herbal medicine can support a wide range of conditions, including:

-
Chronic inflammation, fatigue, and post-viral recovery
-
Stress, anxiety, and sleep difficulties
-
Digestive disorders
-
Circulation and cardiovascular health
-
Joint and musculoskeletal pain
-
Hormonal health, menopause, and fertility
-
Skin conditions and allergies
-
Integrative support before, during, and after cancer treatment

"Katie’s calm approach, ability to assimilate all of the information and determination to help find
solutions have all been key factors to my gradual recovery."

About Katie
I’m Katie Reid, a degree-qualified Medical Herbalist specialising in chronic and complex health conditions. My work is grounded in careful listening, clinical experience, and an evidence-informed approach that draws on both modern research and traditional herbal medicine.

I aim to provide a calm, supportive space in which people feel heard and understood. Consultations are thorough and wide-ranging, exploring past medical history, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, and how different body systems may be interacting. This whole-person approach allows treatment to address underlying drivers of illness, while also supporting symptom relief.

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Herbal Medicine and was awarded the Dorothy Carroll Award for Top Final Clinical Examination. I am a full member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), the UK’s largest professional body for medical herbalists, whose members adhere to a rigorous code of ethics and ongoing professional development.

Alongside my core training, I have completed further postgraduate education in Cancer and Integrative Oncology with The Peat Institute, and regularly engage with current research to inform my clinical work. Before training as a herbalist, I completed an MSc in Conservation and a BSc in Anthropology, and worked for many years in conservation — a background that continues to shape my systems-based view of health.

I have lived in Oxford for over 30 years and am the mother of two young red-haired daughters.
